Having now made the transition into a full-blooded band that rocks, Lennox and Stewart could do no wrong and must be seen as one of the musical highlights of the 80s. To maintain such a high standard through six albums in four years takes some doing, yet here they go again, each time growing musically and adding that little extra, for example, the meaty harmonica opening on "Missionary Man," the harder drum sound on all tracks, and finally Stewart back to playing lots of guitar and sounding as though he is having fun. Annie Lennox, the visual chameleon puts another face on; this time she is a blonde Barbie. Under the covers she is very much the familiar voice that became one of the most listened to throughout the 80s. This came towards the end, and as such is not the usual greatest hits package that many of their regular albums sounded like. Stewart was beginning to experiment with electronic sound (again) as Lennox seemed to want to sing more. In "I Need A Man," Annie sings of the type of man she does not want. In "Shame" she mourns nostalgia, while in "Savage" there is sadness, bitterness and anger. Reissue. 19 is the debut studio album by singer/songwriter Adele, originally released in 2008. Following Adele's graduation from the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in May 2006, she began publishing songs and recorded a three-song demo for a class project and gave it to a friend. The friend posted the demo on Myspace, where it became very successful and led to interest from XL Recordings. This led to Adele signing a recording contract with the label and providing vocals for Jack Peñate, during this session for Peñate's song she met producer Jim Abbiss, who would go on to produce the majority of her debut album. Adele wrote most of the album's material solely, but did work with a select few writers and producers including Jim Abbiss, Eg White and Sacha Skarbek.

Tracklist

A1                    Daydreamer
A2                    Best For Last
A3                    Chasing Pavements
A4                    Cold Shoulder
A5                    Crazy For You
A6 Melt My Heart To Stone
B1                    First Love
B2                    Right As Rain
B3 Make You Feel My Love
B4                    My Same
B5                    Tired
B6                    Hometown Glory

*Audio and/or tracklist may vary slightly from the vinyl version.

Label: ‎XL Recordings
Rel. Then, newly signed to English Decca, they delivered Animalisms, a truly transcendent collection of a dozen songs, mostly superb covers interspersed with some good originals, principally by Eric Burdon and Dave Rowberry. Burdon was never singing better and the group had developed a bold, tight sound that seemed to lift his soul shouting to ever higher levels of passion and conviction. "Outcast," "Maudie," "You're on My Mind," "Clapping," "That's All I Am to You," "Squeeze Her - Tease Her," "I Put a Spell on You," "She'll Return It," and "Gin House Blues" all rate among the best work the band ever did, passionate, gorgeous, and exciting R&B down to the last note, with Burdon at the peak of his career; and "Sweet Little Sixteen," though a relatively minor song here, was their best Chuck Berry cover to date, highlighted by Rowberry's flashy piano (doing some Jerry Lee Lewis arpeggios) and Hilton Valentine's boldest guitar work yet, combining the lead and rhythm parts in a hard chopping, twanging virtuoso performance. Ironically, the Animalisms album (which was issued in America two months later in somewhat altered form, as Animalization) appeared just as the group was about to enter its final phase of existence -- they'd switched drummers from John Steel to Barry Jenkins during the period in which these tracks were recorded, and Burdon would soon decide to dissolve the lineup. ~ Bruce Eder

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 07/06/2018

Gogol Bordello: Eugene Hutz, Vlad Solovar, Sasha Kazatchkoff, Eliot Ferguson.
Additional personnel: Sally Norvell (vocals); Mr. Clarinet Cliff Zaphir (clarinet); Paula Henderson (saxophone); Jennifer Carey (tuba).
Recorded at Grabbybox, New York, New York in February 1999.

Genre: Pop

RSD Date: DDD

Format: CD

Released: 07/06/2018

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Gogol-Bordello-Multi-Kontra-Culti-Vs-Irony_hOfsn.jpg?v=1741092496
bruce-springsteen-greatest-hits-gatefold-lp-jacket-150-gram-vinyl-download-insert-2-lps
Greatest Hits (Gatefold LP Jacket, 150 Gram Vinyl, Download Insert) (2 Lp's)
Personnel includes: Bruce Springsteen (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, harmonica, keyboards, bass, percussion); Steve Van Zandt (acoustic & electric guitars, mandolin, background vocals); Nils Lofgren (guitar); Clarence Clemons (saxophone, percussion, background vocals); Roy Bittan (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, keyboards, synthesizer, glockenspiel, background vocals); Danny Federici (piano, organ, keyboards, glockenspiel, background vocals); David Sancious (keyboards); Garry Tallent (bass, background vocals); Randy Jackson (bass); Max Weinberg (drums, percussion, background vocals); Jeff Porcaro (drums, percussion); Ernest "Boom" Carter (drums); Patti Scialfa, Flo & Eddie (background vocals).
Producers include: Bruce Springsteen, Mike Appel, Jon Landau, Steve Van Zandt, Chuck Plotkin.
Engineers: Louis Lahav, Jimmy Iovine, Neil Dorfsman, Toby Scott.
Includes liner notes by Bruce Springsteen.
"Streets Of Philadelphia" won 1995 Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year, Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Song Written Specifically For A Motion Picture Or For Television. "Streets Of Philadelphia" was also nominated for Record Of The Year.
Here's the challenge in putting together a Bruce Springsteen compilation: though he scored 18 Top 40 hits (12 of which made the Top Ten) through 1994, Springsteen is not a "singles artist." Some of his biggest hits have come with his slightest or least characteristic material; he has written numerous songs that were hits for other artists; and some of his most memorable songs were not released as singles. While a Springsteen "hits" collection logically would contain such Top Ten singles as "I'm on Fire" and his cover of Edwin Starr's "War," few Springsteen fans would miss their omission; on the other hand, many would support the inclusion of "Blinded by the Light" and "Pink Cadillac," Top Ten hits for Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Natalie Cole; and anyone even remotely familiar with Springsteen's albums and concerts would have trouble countenancing the absence of such non-singles as "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" and "Thunder Road." Facing this challenge, Springsteen has adopted his own set of criteria. First, he seems to have wanted to pack as much music onto a single disc as possible, the result being a CD-busting 76:47 running time. Second, he seems to have wanted to include as many tracks as possible, even if that means editing songs; as a result, 18 tracks are included, though five have been substantially shortened -- "My Hometown" (by 24 seconds), "Glory Days" (by 29 seconds), "Human Touch" (by 82 seconds), "Better Days" (by 23 seconds), and "Streets of Philadelphia" (by 60 seconds). Third, like many artists, he is more interested in including his recent material than his older material, so there is nothing from Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. or The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle -- no "Blinded by the Light," "Spirit in the Night," "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)," or "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" -- but both sides of his 1992 single "Human Touch"/"Better Days" are included. Fourth, he has not felt bound to interpret the album's title to mean he must include his most successful singles: the Top 40 hits "Prove It All Night" and "One Step Up" and the Top Tens "Cover Me," "I'm on Fire," "I'm Goin' Down," "War," and "Tunnel of Love" are left off, while the album tracks "Thunder Road," "The River," and "Atlantic City" and the minor chart single "Badlands" are included. Fifth, he has opted to include both a couple of new songs ("Secret Garden" and "Blood Brothers"), a previously unreleased outtake ("Murder Incorporated"), and a new recording of a previously unreleased old song ("This Hard Land"). All of which is to say that Greatest Hits is a hodgepodge. Springsteen considered calling it something other than Greatest Hits (one idea: This Hard Land), and that might have been a better idea if he was going to fiddle with the concept this much. Nevertheless, some of Springsteen's best and best-known hit recordings are here -- "Born to Run," "Hungry Heart," "Dancing in the Dark," "Born in the U.S.A.," and the then-recent "Streets of Philadelphia," the success of which probably prompted the release of this compilation in the first place. ~ William Ruhlmann

Genre: Rock

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/bruce-springsteen-greatest-hits-gatefold-lp-jacket-150-gram-vinyl-download-insert-2-lps_SgOc8.jpg?v=1743788107
eurythmics-be-yourself-tonight
Be Yourself Tonight
Eurythmics: Annie Lennox (vocals, keyboards); David A. It showcases each at the peak of his power, as John crafts supple, elastic, versatile pop and Taupin's inscrutable wordplay is evocative, even moving. Although the musical skill on display here is dazzling, as it bounces between country and hard rock within the same song, this album needs time to reveal its treasures, but once it does, it captures John and Taupin at a career pinnacle. This is the band's first album in nearly a decade and their debut after their acrimonious split with former guitarist and vocalist Abbath. In addition, it marks the welcome return of Demonaz on guitar and vocals after a nearly-two-decade bout with tendonitis. With drummer Horgh and session bassist Peter T?gtgren, longtime fans should recognize that despite the changes and misfortunes in the band's history, this remains Immortal, sonically and musically. The opening title track is all the proof one needs, as pummeling blastbeats, razor-wire power riffs, and bloodcurdling screams charge through the speakers at hundreds of miles per hour. Demonaz is ferocious up front. His howl is pure, adrenalin-fueled malice. While "Intro Battle Ride" feels like an insane companion piece that, like its predecessor, harkens back to the beginnings of second wave black metal, Immortal delivers another sonic trademark on "Gates to Blashyrkh" and "Black of Worlds" with their melodic interludes and sorrowful atmospheres balancing out the band's sheer brutal physicality. The former is all build up, never resolving even if its closing riff is one of the best in their long history. The latter bears all the hallmarks of the classic "Withstand the Fall of Time," which merely underscores -- along with the rest of this material -- that Immortal are shoring up their identity as one of black metal's monuments. Further evidence lies in tracks such as "Where Mountains Rise," that reflects the influence of Bathory -- these bands liberally borrowed from one another back in the day. "The Mighty Ravendark" closes the set in a nine-minute careen across Immortal's recorded history while simultaneously shoving hard at the margins that previously contained them with swinging punchy snares and kick drums, throbbing basslines, and a meld of black and detuned death metal tropes, without faltering even once. While it's true that Immortal doesn't break new ground here, it was perhaps more important at this juncture to reassert their sound to fans as they move forward in the aftermath of Abbath's departure. They not only carry on here, but sound more like their unhinged, malevolent selves than ever. ~ Thom Jurek

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 07/06/2018

SIDE A 1. When CCR's farewell arrived in the spring of 1972, he already had an eponymous album in stores, recorded with keyboardist Merl Saunders, bassist John Kahn, drummer Bill Vitt, and guitarist Russ Gary. This same lineup quickly went back into the studio to cut another record, this time swapping Gary for a guitarist of greater renown: Jerry Garcia. The appearance of Captain Trips on Excalibur is logical, as the album essentially features the group that was gigging around the Bay Area as the Merl Saunders & Jerry Garcia band (if anything, it's a surprise that Jerry didn't sit in on the first Fogerty LP), and this fact puts the LP in a different light. While Tom Fogerty still sounds a bit like his brother John and is more inclined to choogle than his bandmates -- who are nevertheless happy to follow him when he decides to lay into the New Orleans -- this shouldn't be seen as a CCR castoff. Instead, Excalibur belongs in the extended Dead universe, capturing an elastic, winding rock & roll whose essential three-chord boogies seem slightly spacy. That vague trippiness can sometimes translate into music that feels a little bit lazy -- they're all jamming on mellow grooves, a notable shift from the driving backbeat of CCR -- but it also contains its share of period charms. Above all, Excalibur is an artifact of the early '70s, a record that finds space for the ornate AM-psych of "Sign of the Devil" but is generally more concerned with hippie rhythms that are just starting to seem a little musty. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

The Moody Blues: Justin Hayward, Graeme Edge, John Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas.
Engineers: Derek Varnals, Adrian Martins, Robin Thompson.
Includes liner notes by John Reed.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
The beautifully remastered version of the Moody Blues's 1970 back-to-basics album (translation: they cut way back on the overdubs) strips away the original aural murk at last, and includes informative liner-note interviews with the band about the recording process.

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/animals-animalisms-blue-colv-ogv-reis_ML7wQ_d1fbaae2-4c26-4b9a-9e58-a8c4f00bee63.jpg?v=1759080698
louis-armstrong-collected-180-gram-vinyl-import-2-lps
Collected (180 Gram Vinyl) [Import] (2 Lp's)

SIDE A
1. That same query is applied to Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road," Willie Nelson's "Whiskey River," and nine other classics of the genre on the competent and occasionally thrilling Outlaws 'til the End, Vol. 1. It's certainly the group's most adventurous outing to date, but that's not saying a whole lot, as DevilDriver have been cranking out shelf-stable slabs of death-focused groove-metal for over two decades. Still, it's fun hearing Dez Fafara and company pay tribute to their outlaw country heroes, especially when they allow themselves a bit of sonic wiggle room, as they do quite effectively on standouts like Hank Williams III's "Country Heroes" and Stan Jones' "Ghost Riders in the Sky," the latter of which delivers the perfect blend of brooding fury and power metal cheese. The familiarity of cuts like "Ghost Riders" and "Whiskey River" is tempered by the appearance of less-recognizable offerings like Richard Thompson's scathing anti-war rocker "Dad's Gonna Kill Me," which gets the full-DevilDriver treatment, and a guest vocal from Fear Factory's Burton C. Sure, it can be hard to suss out the source material when everything sounds like it's being filtered through a woodchipper -- it's unlikely that fans will be able to tell the difference between the band's originals and their Dimmu Borgir-inspired rendering of "Whiskey River" in a live setting -- but there's nothing on here that doesn't feel like a labor of love. ~ James Christopher Monger

Genre: Rock

RSD Date: n/a

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/devildriver-outlaws-til-the-end-vol-1-black-lp_gEPJh.jpg?v=1741085920
coroner-no-more-color
No More Color

No More Color is a Records & LPs from Coroner

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

Personnel includes: Masta Ace, Greg Nice, King Tee, Leschea, Punch & Words, Jane Doe, Jean Grae, Strick, Apocalypse, Young Zee, J-Ro, Rah Digga, Leschea.
Producers include: Paul Nice, Koolade, Rodney Hunter, DJ Rob, Domingo.
Engineers include: DJ Rob, Filthy Rich, Finesse.
After a six-year period of disillusionment with the rap game, one-time Juice Crew member Masta Ace returned with this supposed sayonara album that reads like a bittersweet memoir. Though Ace had been active in the underground scene since the release of 1995's Sittin' on Chrome, appearing on a number of singles and contributing memorable verses to various collaborations, the artist's disdain for the industry and disgust with his contemporaries kept him out of the studio for lengthy recording sessions. Feeling that rap's heyday had passed with the deaths of rappers like 2Pac and Biggie, and seeing a media- and market-influenced, watered-down product, Disposable Arts broods with anger, cynicism, and satire for the modern rapper bent purely on trend capitalizing. The paradox here is that Ace himself seems to seek and feels worthy of the same multimillion that he accuses his contemporaries of securing through less-than-artistic means. The burden of underground respect that nets only underground sales seems to be the primary source of Ace's frustration. While smacking of classic player-hate, Ace's response for the Cash Money Millionaires and Roc-A-Fellas of hip-hop is: "the rap game's a book and I read mad chapters/and if you ask me, it ain't enough Madd Rappers." Ace enlists a healthy balance of true schoolers (King T and Greg Nice) and eccentric up-and-comers (Punch, Words, and the delightfully weird MC Paul Barman) for the project. Musically, the album offers anything but the disposable; highlights include the eerie narrative "Take a Walk," the fierce dis record "Acknowledge," and the ingenious "Alphabet Soup," where Ace runs through the alphabet with some witty old-school rhymes. More four-alarm flames light up "Something's Wrong," the psychedelic "Dear Diary," and the thumping homage to the West Coast, "P.T.A.." A knockout punchliner with an airtight flow and delivery, Ace, in the face of everything he hates about hip-hop, turns in his most expansively satisfying work. With 24 strong tracks and only faint signs of misstep, Disposable Arts is tightly wrought thematically, musically, and lyrically, not to mention one heck of a parting shot. By this time, like several other pianists, Guaraldi was actively exploring the new sonic horizons offered by electronic keyboards, and so he superimposes layers of electric harpsichord on most of these tracks. Some of the old sardonic spontaneity goes over the side, replaced by an overloaded gee-whiz atmosphere that sometimes gets in the way of the quartet's willingness to swing. But the tunes are marvelous, and since so little of Guaraldi's vast Peanuts output was ever made available, every millisecond of these jazz waltzes, bossa novas and soulful ruminations on Charlie Brown's world becomes cherishable. ~ Richard S. But there's a horror-soundtrack darkness to his music, with synth lines reminiscent of John Carpenter, that gives it a greater intensity than Eminem's clowning can muster. Furthermore, he's defiantly country, describing mobile homes, trips to Wal-Mart, and generally setting himself up as what happens -- as he puts it in "That's What We on Now" -- "when the sticks meet the bricks." This release is described as a "retail mixtape," since it contains six tracks from Yelawolf's last underground release, Trunk Muzik, and six new tracks presumably recorded in the wake of his signing to Interscope. A few guests -- Raekwon, Bun B., and Gucci Mane -- show up, but it's when Yelawolf's on his own that he's strongest, as on "Pop the Trunk," one of his best-known underground tracks. A story of backwoods violence underpinned by piano that sounds culled from a Nine Inch Nails ballad, it could have come off the soundtrack to the Kentucky-set TV crime drama Justified or the movie Winter's Bone, about meth dealers in Appalachia. This mix of industrial/goth moroseness, hip-hop braggadocio, and stark lyrical brutality makes Yelawolf's major-label debut (whether you call it a mixtape or an album) interesting, but it remains to be seen how quickly the appeal of his persona and subject matter exhaust themselves. ~ Phil Freeman

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

The Pawnshop is a Records & LPs from Pawnshop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

Punishment For Decadence is a Records & LPs from Coroner

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/coroner-punishment-for-decadence_Prm1m.jpg?v=1758906620
damageplan-new-found-power
New Found Power
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Damageplan: Pat Lachman (vocals); Dimebag Darrell (guitar); Bob Zilla (bass); Vinnie Paul (drums).
Additional personnel includes: Zakk Wylde.
Producers: Vinnie Paul, Dimebag Darrell, Sterling Winfield, Pat Lachman.
Principally recorded at Marshall Sound Design, Dallas, Texas.
The demise of Pantera reverberated deeply in the hearts and minds of heavy music fans. It merges the haunting majesty of his debut full-length, Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again (2001), with the loose conceptual framework of his follow-up EP, My Love Is Rotten to the Core (2002), and does so without being quite as overbearing as those two releases may have felt to listeners interested in simply engaging music rather than far-fetched conception. There are thus two primary sides to Radio Amor: its sounds and concepts. The sonic palette Hecker draws from here is strikingly reminiscent of his previous work. Heavily manipulated waves of drone again clash and splash against one another, often doing so with near yet subtly off synchronicity in the right and left channels. The effect is slightly disorienting, and that's precisely the point, as Hecker's overall aesthetic seems centered upon an otherworldly style of sound manipulation meant to baffle even the most seasoned digital-music listeners. The conceptual framework he builds upon is likewise hazily vague, and no doubt purposefully so. The track titles don't allude to much on their own, yet when coupled with the album's remarkable packaging, a whispered narrative begins to shape, one involving remote seafaring, faint transmissions, compass guidance, and a third-world locale. It's perhaps fitting then that the album's climax, its most deliciously harrowing seasick moment, "Azure Azure," comes late in the album, following "The Star Compass" and preceding "Trade Winds, White Heat." By that point, Hecker has once again swept you away with a seamless album that demands beginning-to-end listening, and this time he does so with the timeless grandeur and universal appeal of a Hemingway-esque lost-at-sea novel narrated from the omniscient perspective. This is far, far from your ordinary ambient album -- if you're willing to dive into its depth rather than merely skim its surface, that is. ~ Jason Birchmeier

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 07/06/2018

While live Erasure albums are hardly a rarity, especially if one counts items like limited-edition souvenir LPs, sorting through which ones are still in print or available on streaming sites is another matter entirely. At the time of its release, 2018's World Be Live is their first widely available live album since 2007's On the Road to Nashville, which captured an acoustic show at Ryman Auditorium. The third in a trilogy of releases led by their 2017 studio LP World Be Gone, it follows March 2018's World Beyond, a re-recording of the album by singer Andy Bell and the Echo Collective chamber ensemble. Arriving a few months later, World Be Live was taken from two sold-out, fully electronic 2017 shows at London's Eventim Apollo (formerly Hammersmith Apollo) during the U.K. leg of an extensive world tour. Featuring 24 tracks and a playing time of over 90 minutes, World Be Live is a well-curated mix of career-spanning hits alongside five selections from the album they were promoting, which was notably their first U.K. Top Ten album in 20 years. Given the more somber nature of the record, songs like the romantic "Sweet Summer Loving" and the spare, anguished "Take Me Out of Myself" coincide with periodic breaks from the full-on dance party that constitutes the majority of the show. Per usual, however, Bell's emotive performances make these contrasting moments -- which also include goldies like 1988's "Ship of Fools" and 1997's "In My Arms" -- engaging ones. In the other extreme, rollicking club hits include opener "Oh l'Amour" and "Stop!," one of the few tracks here that allows us to hear the crowd singing along. Another is closer "A Little Respect," which has Bell still nailing those high notes 30 years on.
