He burst onto the country scene with a larger-than-life image and reputation; unconfirmed rumors abounded about him doing time for killing a man, and he came off as one of the roughest, hardest-living bad boys to ever hit Nashville. All the hype would have been for naught if Coe wasn't also an excellent songwriter and powerful performer.
THE ESSENTIAL DAVID ALLAN COE provides an excellent thumbnail sketch of Coe's career, hitting all the highlights. Coe's gift for self-mythologizing (an important skill in country music) is exemplified by his outlaw manifesto "Willie, Waylon and Me." "Take This Job and Shove It" was penned by Coe, but is best known as a huge hit for Johnny Paycheck, and it's great to hear it interpreted by its author. "If That Ain't Country" is emblematic of Coe's irresistible, in-your-face approach, and his ballad "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)," a hit for Tanya Tucker, presents another, more sensitive side of the hell-raising songwriter. Coe is a force of nature, a musical tornado bowling over everything in its path, and this collection is the measure of his devastating impact.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 8/31/2004

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/David-Allan-Coe-THE-ESSENTIAL-DAVID-ALLAN-COE_MHSd0_bd1285ec-6afb-4d2d-932a-e1a8f5b96671.jpg?v=1759423485
yukmouth-united-ghetto-of-america-2
UNITED GHETTO OF AMERICA 2
Additional personnel: Devin, Domination, Dru Down, E-40 , Gonzoe, Krizz Kaliko, Luni Coleone, Richie Rich, Tech-9, Kurupt, Bun B, C-BO.
Audio Mixers: Shatiek; William Lucas.
Recording information: Benny Studios, Akron, OH; Don Drama House Of Hits, Newark, NJ; Lyriccally Studios, Queens, NY; Master Mix Studio, Minniapolis, MN; Mike Dean's House Of Hits, Cypress, TX; Smoke House Studios, Hollywood, CA.
Editor: Peter Yum.
Minus some high-profile guest spots on other rappers' albums, Yukmouth has made little impression outside of rap's hardcore inner circle since his days with the Luniz. With the guest stars often overtaking the man and an overstuffed track list, United Ghettos of America, Vol. 2 isn't going to change that much, but the hardcore get a better album than usual and it's a shame some of these tracks won't even make it to radio. "We Just Wanna Thug" is bright electro with a great N.O.R.E. appearance, E-40 and Yuk nail it on "Kalifornia G'z," "I Love Dro" is a worthy smoking song, and the cinematic "American Me" is just about the most exciting moment Yukmouth has served up by his lonesome. Chalk it all up to the guest stars. Not that their raps are better; it's just that Yukmouth seems more inspired when he's bouncing his skills off others (been that way since the Luniz). Also of note is the presence of Mike Dean, the producer/engineer who has been behind a bunch of great rap albums from the South and Texas. He's mastered the whole album and given it a thumping, claustrophobic feel, right in line with the best underground crunk the South has to offer. Yukmouth may be West Coast but he's going South in a good way on United Ghettos of America, Vol. 2, and it's great to hear him so inspired. ~ David Jeffries

Genre: Pop

RSD Date: n/a

Format: CD

Released: 8/24/2004

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Yukmouth-UNITED-GHETTO-OF-AMERICA-2_AcvQn.jpg?v=1741077276
taste-gallagher-rory-live-at-the-isle-of-wight
LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT
This live album captures Taste performing at a rock festival. A bluesy wailer on par with Robert Plant and Paul Rodgers, the California native first garnered acclaim as the lead singer of Montrose, but also scored several genre-defining hits on his own. In a cruel, Spinal Tap-like twist of fate, keyboardist Brent Mydland would soon meet the same untimely fate as his predecessors Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and Keith Godchaux. Band visionary Jerry Garcia would follow him a few years after, effectively ending the band's long career. Producer Bob Bralove (normally the band's soundman) took excerpted instrumental sections from various Dead jams (including some that were all percussion) and then went at them in the studio, processing them to a fare-thee-well (for example, synthesizing trumpet parts out of guitar lines), playing with structure, and generally creating aural soundscapes that often have only a tenuous connection with the original music. Twenty-two years later, the bonus-laden, two-CD reissue serves as a fascinating in-concert document of the phases the band went through during its first five years. The late-'70s tracks on the first disc show the early version of the band in all its geeky glory, mixing spastic New Wave quirkiness, funk rhythms, and art-school lyrics. It's intriguing to hear the difference between some of the songs' inception and their eventual recorded versions, such as a relatively straightforward "Electricity (Drugs)," which would turn ominous and atmospheric on FEAR OF MUSIC.
The second disc captures the expanded, early-'80s version of the band, with extra musicians and backing vocalists in tow, tackling the fugue-like art-funk masterpieces of the aforementioned album and REMAIN IN LIGHT. It's all the more impressive to hear the interlocking of the guitars, keyboards, and percussion achieved without the benefit of studio overdubbing, and David Byrne's near-manic intensity is even more focused and affecting in the live setting. Album of the Year is a concept record of sorts, one song for each month, each song a heart-rending essay of love found, lost, broken, or ripped apart, ranging from the puppy love "Album of the Year" to the depressed, resigned-to-loss "A New Friend" and "Two Years This Month." Tim Kasher has found his voice, and almost all traces of previous Robert Smith-isms are gone; instead, he whispers, hollers, cajoles, and confesses in a voice stripped of artifice and plugged right into the listener's soul. The record is perfectly constructed. Based around acoustic guitars, the songs are colored in with keyboards, various percussion instruments, and glockenspiel, and made dramatic and often breathtaking. Songs like "You're Not You" and "Album of the Year" are pocket epics, created out of atmosphere and dynamic shifts in mood. Most of the songs are relatively downbeat, but a few, like "Lovers Need Lawyers," show that the band can write snappy pop songs as well. Kasher's lyrics are incisive, personal, and about as honest-sounding as rock music can get. He doesn't flinch from any topic -- not sex, lack of sex, divorce, self-mutilation, or his own shortcomings -- and manages to never pen anything that leaves the listener queasy. He gives the most self-lacerating song, "Inmates," to guest vocalist Jiha Lee to sing "lover done wrong" style before they sing the second half together like an indie George and Tammy. The attention to detail in the production, the punchy melodies, and the sympathetic performances by the group -- along with Kasher's writing that is nothing less than gripping and often head-shakingly brilliant -- make this record an indispensable artifact for anyone who likes indie rock with a real emotional punch. The record comes with a second "bonus" disc that presents the songs in their acoustic demo form. LEVIATHAN is at once serpentine and thundering, simultaneously positioning itself as one of the genre's most ambitious and accessible works, delivering 10 tracks that more than live up to the mammoth image suggested by the disc's MOBY DICK-inspired cover art and lyrics.

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 8/31/2004

In between the release of FIELD SONGS and its follow-up, BUBBLEGUM, former Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan sang for hard-rock heroes both old (a reunited MC5) and new (Queens of the Stone Age), gaining both fans and famous friends in the process. Thus, all eyes were on Lanegan for BUBBLEGUM, which features guest shots by everyone from PJ Harvey and Queens leader Josh Homme to Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses. Fortunately, all this attention doesn't seem to have fazed the sandpaper-voiced singer; despite the guest list, BUBBLEGUM is as dirty, gritty, and raw as anything in his catalog.
While much of Lanegan's previous solo work is a mix of languid folk-rock, gutter blues, and the kind of grunge-mutated 1960s-psych influences that powered the Screaming Trees, BUBBLEGUM is lean, angular, and occasionally almost avant-garde. Simple, driving, Stooges-like riffs and rhythms abet minimalistic organ lines, heavily treated vocals, and a somewhat industrial tonal aesthetic. Notorious substance-abuser Lanegan's post-rehab lyrics are no less ominous or emotionally harrowing for their expanded perspective, and he remains a challenging singer/songwriter eager to explore new sonic avenues.

Handling Note: **Please allow an additional 72 hours for this item's shipment.**

Format Detail: LP standard Jacket

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Internal ID: JITRE

Released: 8/10/2004

The Flower Kings: Jonas Reingold (bass guitar); Roine Stolt, Tomas Bodin, Daniel Gildenl?w, Zoltan Csorsz, Hasse Fr?berg, Hasse Bruniusson.
Personnel: Roine Stolt (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Daniel Gildenl?w, Hasse Fr?berg (vocals); Tomas Bodin (keyboards); Zoltan Csorsz (drums); Hasse Bruniusson (percussion).
Recording information: Cosmic Lodge (01/2004-05/2004); Reingold Studios (01/2004-05/2004).
Author: Joni Mitchell.
Photographers: Roine Stolt; Lilian Forsberg; Rob Palmen.

Genre: Rock

Format: CD

Released: 08/03/2004

The 1980s were a tough time for country music; mainstream Nashville was filled with watered-down MOR, and classic country singers like Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash were foundering. True to form, the famously willful Merle Haggard stuck to his guns throughout this dark era, and his stint on Epic was full of tradition-minded, emotion-filled country music as powerful as anything being recorded at the time, if not as arresting as his legendary '60s work.
"Big City," from Haggard's 1981 album of the same name, became something of a staple tune. The randy "Let's Chase Each Other Around the Room" reveals not only Merle's rascally nature, but his ongoing infatuation with the Western Swing sound. The mournful ballads "Going Where the Lonely Go" and "Are the Good Times Really Over (I Wish a Buck Was Still Silver)" show Haggard's matchless way with melancholy. Duets with George Jones and Willie Nelson indicate that Haggard never lost the respect of his peers, even if his profile at the time wasn't at its highest. Many point to the late '90s as Merle's "comeback" period, but this collection proves that neither he nor his gift ever really went away.

Genre: Country

Format: CD

Released: 8/31/2004

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/merle-haggard-essential-merle-haggard-the-epic-years_EEGKZ.jpg?v=1758834099
constantines-s-t
S/T

S/T is a Music CDs from Constantines

Format: CD

Released: 08/10/2004

Personnel: Shyne (rap vocals); Ashanti (vocals); Nate Dogg, Kurupt (rap vocals).
As much as rappers boast about keeping it real, hip-hop, like most music, is about creating a fictional world. When real life bleeds in, the results are often tragic, like the well-documented end of the feud between 2Pac and Biggie Smalls. In the late-1990s, Brooklyn, New York teenager Shyne (Jamal Barrow) was heralded by many as the latter's heir, but after drawing his gun and firing during an incident involving Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Shyne found himself behind bars until 2009 on an attempted murder rap.
With 2004's GODFATHER BURIED ALIVE, the gravel-voiced rapper's second record, Shyne finds his voice, rich, defiant, unrepentant, and powerful. On a self-titled track, Shyne boasts he's "gonna keep it gangsta 'til I die," and the rest of the disc backs up the claim. "Quasi O.G." tells his tale from a cleverly oblong perspective, relating the story with poetic panache and justifying the initial hype his rushed debut failed to capture. Shyne also finds a new angle to getting his digs in at his opponents on the enrapturing "For the Record." On GODFATHER BURIED ALIVE, Shyne proves that he owes his reputation to more than notoriety--he's a skilled lyricist capable of delivering powerful tracks.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 8/10/2004

461 Ocean Boulevard is a Records & LPs from Eric Clapton

Genre: Pop

Format: Vinyl

Released: 08/19/2004

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/eric-clapton-461-ocean-boulevard_LdPxR.jpg?v=1759441471
r-kelly-happy-people-u-saved
HAPPY PEOPLE/U SAVED
Personnel: R.
