But while emotional songs like "Mom Praying" make The Reason a solid enough follow-up, it essentially boils down to more of the same ol', same ol'. Sigel's familiar streetwise persona shines through on cuts that are more concerned with hustling and hanging out than glitz and glamour, but the repetitive tales of thug life and gangsterisms grow a bit redundant by album's end. The production is consistently banging, and songs like "Tales of a Hustla" and "Think It's a Game" (featuring Jay-Z) more than live up to the promise first glimpsed on The Truth. Brown.
Although the '90s proved to be a dour decade that found The Cult battling dwindling record sales and each other before calling it quits in 1995, these goth-inspired hard rockers managed to reunite and release BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL in 2001. In re-teaming with veteran producer Bob Rock, The Cult cobbled together a batch of songs overflowing with Billy Duffy's fat Led Zeppelin-flavored riffs, Matt Sorum's thunderous drumming, and lyrics influenced by frontman Ian Astbury's spiritual trek to Tibet.
While the anthemic "True Believers" directly refers to said quest, other topics include contemporary society's slide into self-absorption ("Take The Power," "War [The Process]"), a walk on the metaphysical side ("Ashes And Ghosts"), and appropriately enough, rebirth ("The Saint"). Despite the weighty topics, The Cult keeps the decibels cranked as Duffy pours molten waves of distortion into guitar-fueled rants like "Rise" and "American Gothic." Periodically, flashes of the band's old sound pop up. Among the most notable are the hard-charging groove of "My Bridges Burn" (reminiscent of "Fire Woman") and the touching "Nico," a tribute to the early Velvets singer that brings to mind "Edie (Ciao Baby)." BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL is a great start towards a much better decade for these English rockers.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/5/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Cult-BEYOND-GOOD-EVIL_24uGM_2f112594-e1f3-45f8-9cc6-25ce37dc4072.jpg?v=1759367605
blue-oyster-cult-secret-treaties-remastered-bonus-tracks
Secret Treaties (Remastered, Bonus Tracks)
Also available in a 3-pack with BLUE OYSTER CULT and TYRANNY & MUTATION.
Blue Oyster Cult: Eric Bloom (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (vocals, guitar); Joe Bouchard (vocals, bass); Albert Bouchard (vocals, drums); Allan Lanier (guitar, keyboards, synthesizer).
Producers: Murray Krugman, Sandy Pearlman.
Reissue producer: Bruce Dickinson.
Recorded in 1974. While hard rock compositions abound on SECRET TREATIES, the vast space rock of the group's self-titled 1972 debut can be detected back in the mix, courtesy of mainstay BOC producers Murray Krugman and Sandy Pearlman. While the album didn't prove to be the Blue Oyster Cult's breakthrough success (AGENTS OF FORTUNE would do the trick two years later), SECRET TREATIES is held in high regard by longtime fans, and has subsequently reached gold certification.
The epic album closer, "Astronomy," would receive greater attention nearly 25 years after its initial release when Metallica covered it on the band's all-covers collection, GARAGE INC., in 1998, but other tracks are just as strong. "Career of Evil" was co-written by drummer Albert Bouchard and famous punk poet Patti Smith, and remains one of BOC's finest. Other standouts include the edgy rocker "Dominance and Submission," the synth-enhanced "Flaming Telepaths," and the vicious "ME 262." SECRET TREATIES was issued as a specially priced CD three-pack in 1995 along with BLUE OYSTER CULT and TYRANNY AND MUTATION.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/26/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Blue-Oyster-Cult-Secret-Treaties-Remastered-Bonus-Tracks_6sBhI_e1ee4875-408f-4f9c-a97d-af1ffc07a7be.jpg?v=1753223441
norman-greenbaum-spirit-in-the-sky
SPIRIT IN THE SKY
Personnel includes: Norman Greenbaum (vocals); Norman Mayell, Douglas Killmer, Robbie Robinson, Russell Dashiell, Dan Patiris, John Coppola, Chuck Peterson, Bill Sabatini, William Truckaway.
Includes liner notes by Wayne Jancik.
Personnel: Norman Greenbaum (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Russell DaShiell, Robbie Robinson (guitar); William Truckaway (synthesizer); Norman Mayell (drums).
Audio Remasterer: Daniel Hersch.
Liner Note Author: Wayne Jancik.
Photographer: Norman Greenbaum.
Unknown Contributor Roles: Dan Padiris; Bill Sabatini; Charles Peterson ; John Coppola .
Norman Greenbaum was much stranger than his big hit "Spirit in the Sky" would suggest. Then again, that tune -- a confident, fuzz-toned paean to God, that sprit in the sky -- is hardly the most conventional of '70s AM anthems, so perhaps it isn't surprising that the album bearing the same title is all over the map, with sub-War low-riding anthems ("Junior Cadillac"), singer/songwriter introspection, eerie post-psychedelic pop (the genuinely unsettling "Marcy"), and utter oddities ("Canned Ham"). That, of course, means that it's far more fascinating than many soft rock curiosities of the early '70s, and the near-schizophrenic cavalcade of material means that the record doesn't hold together, but that's part of what makes it worth hearing. And while Greenbaum wasn't exactly a consistent songwriter, he did hit the mark several times ("Skyline," "Canned Ham," "Jubilee," and "Junior Cadillac" are all strong), and even the misfires are interesting and well-crafted, at least in terms of its early-'70s peers. This doesn't mean that it's a lost gem, but for listeners who want to dig into early '70s AM pop and soft rock, it's certainly worth hearing. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/5/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Norman-Greenbaum-SPIRIT-IN-THE-SKY_LfwHW.jpg?v=1758897773
pleasure-forever-pleasure-forever
Pleasure Forever

Pleasure Forever is a Music CDs from Pleasure Forever

Format: CD

Released: 06/05/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Pleasure-Forever-Pleasure-Forever_VAma5.jpg?v=1759327406
ramones-rocket-to-russia
ROCKET TO RUSSIA
The Ramones: Joey Ramone (vocals); Johnny Ramone (guitar); Dee Dee Ramone (bass, background vocals); Tommy Ramone (drums).
Producers: Tony Bongiovi, T. Nevertheless, this collection does a fine job of representing Isaacs move from roots-inspired singer, to lover's rock crooner, and on to dancehall master, while covering all points in between.
Isaacs's lovely voice can be both laid-back and passionate, and his delivery is always marked by an assuredness and grace that shines through no matter what stage in his career (he recorded steadily from the 1970s through the 2000s). His early hits like "My Number One" were recorded with some of Jamaica's most famous producers, including Lee Perry and Niney Holness. Isaacs's later recordings, including dancehall classics like "Rough Neck," might not appeal to fans of his early work, but they demonstrate the singer's incredible range, and round out this excellent career overview.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/26/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/gregory-isaacs-ultimate-collection_ISA3X.jpg?v=1742358030
gillian-welch-revival
REVIVAL
Personnel: Gillian Welch (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); David Rawlings (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, Optigan, 6-string bass); Jay J. In an alt-country scene primarily focused on adapting the sound and feeling of old-time traditional country to its own ends, this singer-songwriter, along with her ever-present musical partner David Rawlings, is more interesting in taking the sound of the Carter Family and transplanting it whole into the middle of the 1990s. T-Bone Burnett produced the album with such a sharp eye towards period authenticity that even the occasional modern musical elements (bits of electric guitar and drums, and keyboards) sound of a piece. The songwriting is uniformly excellent, with mature, emotionally resonant songs like "Orphan Girl" sitting comfortably next to such bluesy character pieces as "Tear My Stillhouse Down." Although Welch's future albums would maintain this high level of quality, REVIVAL is an impressive debut of a richly talented singer and songwriter.

Handling Note: **Please allow an additional 72 hours for this item's shipment.**

Format Detail: CD Jewel Case

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Internal ID: JITRE

Released: 6/12/2001

A Flight And A Crash is a Records & LPs from Hot Water Music

Format: Vinyl

Released: 06/05/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/Hot-Water-Music-A-Flight-And-A-Crash_d6AX5.jpg?v=1758978709
electric-light-orchestra-discovery
DISCOVERY
Electric Light Orchestra: Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizer); Kelly Groucett (vocals, bass); Richard Tandy (piano, clavinet, synthesizer); Bev Bevan (drums, percussion).
Producer: Jeff Lynne.
Reissue producer: Jeff Lynne, Al Quaglieri.
Recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's revolutionary "Super Bit Mapping" system.
The last of ELO's classic trio of late-'70s releases, after 1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD and 1977's OUT OF THE BLUE, 1979's DISCOVERY was also the group's last significant commercial success. A bit more self-consciously experimental than the previous pair of ELO albums--"The Diary of Horace Wimp" could have come from the pen of Jeff Lynne's more musically adventurous former musical partner Roy Wood--the album also finds Lynne finally taking notice of the musical trends of the day. The hyper-prominent snare pulse, keening violins, and scratchy guitar of the opening "Shine a Little Love" marks this as ELO's disco song, though the Beatlesque harmonies of the bridge are unmistakably Lynne's. The album's big hit, "Don't Bring Me Down," couldn't be called punk, or even new wave, but the in-your-face arrangement and snarling vocals do at least betray some hint of the more aggressive new music.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/12/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/electric-light-orchestra-discovery_9PCHK_597d1099-a767-44e5-8649-a2ee56e4cd5a.jpg?v=1753205354
alicia-keys-songs-in-a-minor
SONGS IN A MINOR
Personnel: Alicia Keys (vocals, various instruments, piano, keyboards); Jimmy Cozier (vocals): Gerald "G" Flowers, Arty White (guitar); Miri (violin); Isaac Hayes (Fender Rhodes piano); Brian Cox (keyboards); Richie Good (upright bass); Tim Shider, Vic Flowers, Rufus Jackson (electric bass); Norman Hedman (percussion); Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, Anthony Nance (programming); Cindy Mizelle, Tammy Saunders, Andricka Hall, Paul L. It's the first time since that band broke up that Brian Setzer has ventured into guitar-bass-drums rockabilly trio format. One major difference between this group--whose name comes from a legendary televised Elvis Presley concert--and the Cats is the extent to which Setzer's guitar is featured. On song after song he peels off blistering licks with a sharpness that puts him in a league with any other rock & roll guitarist you can name.
Most of the tunes here are jumping rockabilly numbers that will bring a shiver of delight to nostalgic Stray Cats fans. On "5 Years, 4 Months, 3 Days," Setzer even employs a narrative approach that compares admirably to Dave Alvin's work with the Blasters. The only times the album falters are when Setzer tries to stretch the mold too far, as on the introspective "'59" or the faux-Mexican "Santa Rosa Rita." But those gaffes are quickly forgotten in the face of chargers like "Who Could Love This Car But Me" (co-written with none other than Joe Strummer) and the punchy "Get 'Em on the Ropes," which achieves an admirable synthesis of Carl Perkins, the Ramones, and NRBQ (kids, don't try this at home).

Genre: Pop

RSD Date: n/a

Format: CD

Released: 6/12/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/brian-setzer-68-comeback-special-ignition_Y8ECw_f37dc592-f7c9-4b93-9118-a6be5941fa50.jpg?v=1741047470
luther-vandross-luther-vandross
LUTHER VANDROSS
Personnel includes: Luther Vandross (vocals, arranger); Marcus Miller, Soulshock, Karlin, Shep Crawford (various instruments); Phil Hamilton (acoustic & electric guitars); Paul Jackson, Jr. (electric guitar); Babyface (guitar, background vocals); Jon Smith, Ira Siegal, Michael Thompson, Professa, Ricky Kenyarnz (guitar); Nat Adderly, Jr., Greg Phillinganes (piano); John "Skip" Anderson (keyboards, string synthesizer, bass); Fred Cash, Jr., Neil Stubenhaus (bass); Ivan Hampden, Harvey Mason, Jr. (drums); Bahiri Johnson (percussion); Jon B (programming, background vocals); Ron Lawrence, Reed Vertelney, Byron Miller (programming); Silky, Cindy Mizelle, Tawatha Agee, Cissy Houston, Paulette McWilliams (background vocals).
Producers include: Warryn Campbell, Jon B, Kaygee, Ron "Amen-Ra" Lawrence, Luther Vandross.
Engineers include: Paul Boutin, Adam Kudzin, Bill Malina.
"Any Day Now" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.
For his self-titled debut on J Records, Clive Davis's post-Arista venture, Luther Vandross manages to incorporate enough contemporary production touches to keep himself sounding current, without abandoning the old-school style that made him a star in the '80s. Vandross is the original R&B love man--he's been practicing his singular brand of soul and sensuality since most of today's mack daddies were in short pants, and his experience is apparent here.
Instead of the full-on approach of an R. The melodic hooks that are intrinsic to the album's arrangements (production chores are ably handled by Davis and Vandross) leap out just enough to pull the listener into the music. Once immersed in Luther's world, you'll likely be focused largely on the man's powerful voice and tasteful, emotive singing; that's what it's all about anyhow.

Genre: Rock and Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/19/2001

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0654/3523/8633/files/luther-vandross-luther-vandross_pdUs7.jpg?v=1759262033
d12-devils-night-ex
DEVILS NIGHT (EX)
D-12: Denaun "Kon Artis" Porter (rap vocals, programming); Eminem, Proof, Rondell "Kuniva" Beene, Swift, Bizarre (rap vocals).
Additional personnel: Dina Rae, Truth Hurts (vocals); Jeff Bass (spoken vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass); Obie Trice, Steve Berman (spoken vocals); Mike Elizondo (guitar, keyboards, bass); Ray Gale (harmonica); Camara Kambon, Scott Storch, Luis Resto (keyboards); DJ Head (programming); Traci Nelson (background vocals).
Producers: Denaun "Kon Artis" Porter, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jeff Bass.
Engineers: Steve King, Mauricio "Veto" Iragorri.
Personnel: Jeff Bass, Mike Elizondo (guitar, keyboards); Luis Resto, Scott Storch, Camara Kambon (keyboards); DJ Head, Denaun Porter (drum programming); Traci Nelson (background vocals).
Audio Mixers: Dr. Dre; Eminem; Steve King ; Richard Huredia.
Recording information: 54 Sound, Detroit, MI; Record One Studios; The Lodge.
Photographer: Joe-Mama Nitzberg.
Unknown Contributor Roles: Chris Clancy; Paul "Bunyan" Rosenberg.
The presence of Eminem as executive producer, co-writer, and designated white guy, guarantees a considerable amount of attention for hip-hop group D12. Fortunately for Eminem fans, their hero's talents are not squandered on DEVIL'S NIGHT. D12 is presumably a reference to the fact that Mr. Slim Shady moved to Detroit when he was twelve years old, and the same hardcore urban style that informs his own work is a major factor on this group effort. While it's Eminem's starpower that's given D12 a wide audience, this an entirely collective endeavor; each of the rappers in D12 gets an equal amount of time in the spotlight. In this respect, the situation is not unlike that of Nelly's work with St. Lunatics. As the opening tongue-in-cheek disclaimer notes, this album is full of the potentially offensive terms and subjects that made Eminem so controversial, and the album's emotional centerpiece "American Psycho" is a journey into a psyche as deep and dark as any on THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP. Nevertheless, the other members of D12 contribute enough of their own personality to DEVIL'S NIGHT to keep it from being just a busman's holiday.

Genre: Pop

Format: CD

Released: 6/19/2001

!!!
