Cut the World features 11 symphonic versions of songs from Antony and the Johnsons four previous full-lengths, recorded in Denmark with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and arrangements by Antony, composer Nico Muhly, Rob Moose, and Maxim Moston. The album was comprised of performances taken from two nights at the DK Concert Hall in Copenhagen. The album's opener is the only new song in the batch. It was written by Hegarty as part of the score for the stage production of The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, directed by Robert Wilson. Hegarty also acts in the play.
