Album Overview
Björk and The Hamrahlíð Choir bring together two distinct interpretations of “Cosmogony” on this special 2021 Record Store Day release. The A-side features Björk’s original recording from her 2011 album Biophilia, while the AA-side presents The Hamrahlíð Choir’s choral interpretation of the song.
The release highlights Björk’s long connection with the Icelandic choir, of which she was a member as a teenager. Their collaboration later continued through Utopia and the expansive Cornucopia live production, with the choir accompanying Björk during performances of the show.
Presented as a limited-edition picture disc, the release features artwork created in collaboration between Björk and longtime visual collaborator James Merry. With one version centered on Björk’s original electronic arrangement and the other transforming the composition through layered choral voices, the two-track single offers a striking contrast between the song’s original and reinterpretation.
This 2021 European 12-inch picture disc was released by One Little Independent Records for Record Store Day 2021.
