Björk’s Vulnicura Strings reimagines her deeply emotional album Vulnicura through strings, voice, and viola organista only. Stripping away the electronic beats of the original album, this acoustic companion version places Björk’s vocal performances and string arrangements at the center, creating a raw, intimate, and orchestral reflection of heartbreak, loss, and healing.
The album features new violin solos by Una Sveinbjarnardóttir and arrangements recorded with a viola organista, an instrument originally designed by Leonardo da Vinci and later built centuries after his lifetime. Across tracks like “Lionsong,” “Black Lake,” “Stonemilker,” “Family,” “Notget,” and “Quicksand,” Vulnicura Strings highlights the chamber, modern classical, and avant-pop side of Björk’s work.
