Lafayette Afro-Rock Band – Darkest Light [7" Single]

Description

Strut presents two classic tracks from the inimitable Lafayette Afro-Rock Band, finally available together on 7" vinyl: the endlessly sampled Darkest Light, backed with the quintessential Hihache. The opening bars of Darkest Light are instantly recognisable to funk and hip-hop heads. Originally released on the Lafayette Afro-Rock Band's Malik album, the track went on to become a defining hip- hop motif, sampled by Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Wreckx-N-Effect and many more. On the flip, Hihache emerged as a firm favourite as hip-hop culture exploded in the 1980s. Taken from the group's iconic Soul Makossa album, its larger-than-life drum break became a foundational sample, most famously appearing in Biz Markie's Nobody Beats The Biz, among countless others. Two essential cuts from a hugely influential group, now pressed in a strictly limited run of just 500 copies on black 7" vinyl.
