Album Overview
Dirty Projectors bring together an entire year of musical exploration on 5EPs, a 20-song anthology collecting the five EPs the band released throughout 2020. Each installment places a different voice or configuration of the group at the center, allowing the collection to move between acoustic songwriting, electronic production, bossa nova influence, orchestral experimentation, and full-band indie rock.
The sequence begins with Windows Open, featuring Maia Friedman on lead vocals, followed by Felicia Douglass’ rhythm-driven Flight Tower. Dave Longstreth takes the lead on the João Gilberto-inspired Super João, while Kristin Slipp fronts the orchestral and digitally manipulated Earth Crisis. The collection concludes with Ring Road, bringing the group’s voices together in a more collaborative full-band setting.
Across the anthology, songs including “Overlord,” “Lose Your Love,” “Holy Mackerel,” “Bird’s Eye,” and “Searching Spirit” demonstrate the range of Dirty Projectors’ evolving lineup.
