Album Overview
Dirty Projectors revisit material from across their catalog on Sing the Melody, a live-in-studio album recorded at New York City’s Power Station during the band’s 2018 touring era. Released as the third installment in the Domino Documents series, the record captures the group performing refined live arrangements developed on the road.
The eight-track set draws heavily from Lamp Lit Prose, opening with “Right Now” before moving through “What Is the Time,” “That’s a Lifestyle,” and “I Feel Energy.” Side two includes “Cool Your Heart,” a rendition of “FourFiveSeconds,” “Knotty Pine,” and “Break-Thru.”
The Power Station lineup features Felicia Douglass, Kristin Slipp, Maia Friedman, Nat Baldwin, Mike Johnson, and Dave Longstreth. Rather than recreating the studio versions, the performances emphasize the group’s live vocal interplay, rhythmic flexibility, and evolving arrangements. “FourFiveSeconds” also connects back to Longstreth’s role as a co-writer of the Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney song, while “Knotty Pine” revisits his earlier collaboration with David Byrne.
This physical vinyl edition was released in 2020 through Domino as part of the Domino Documents series and presents the complete eight-song live-in-studio album on a single LP.
