Album Overview
Dirty Projectors begin a new chapter on Windows Open, the first installment in the band’s five-EP series released throughout 2020. The four-song collection places Maia Friedman at the center, with her lead vocals bringing a laid-back and intimate character to some of the group’s most understated material.
The EP opens with “On the Breeze” before moving into “Overlord,” “Search for Life,” and “Guarding the Baby.” Acoustic textures, delicate melodies, and spacious arrangements give the collection a softer character while retaining Dirty Projectors’ distinctive approach to harmony and songwriting.
Dave Longstreth wrote, produced, and mixed the music while co-writing the lyrics with Friedman. Windows Open also marked the first Dirty Projectors release to feature the lineup associated with the band’s 2018 and 2019 Lamp Lit Prose touring era, setting the stage for the four additional EPs that followed during 2020.
This 2020 U.S. Domino edition presents all four songs on black 12-inch vinyl cut at 45 RPM.
Why You’ll Love It
If you enjoy the quieter and more melodic side of Dirty Projectors, Windows Open offers a concise collection built around Maia Friedman’s lead vocals and Dave Longstreth’s carefully arranged songwriting. Its acoustic textures and reflective tone make it a distinctive opening chapter in the band’s 2020 EP cycle, while the 45 RPM 12-inch pressing gives the four-song release a dedicated physical format.
