Although there's nothing on 1976's FOUR SEASONS OF LOVE that approaches the commercial heights of 1975's "Love to Love You Baby"--a legendary 12-inch single that single-handedly invented the entire concept of the extended remix--the album is nonetheless a remarkable achievement. Written and produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belotte, the four lengthy tracks--plus a brief reprise of the opening "Spring Melody"--chart the course of a love affair over four seasons. Perhaps most impressively, the album contains considerably more musical variety than the casual listener might expect from a Moroder/Belotte album. Only "Spring Affair" is the electronic Eurodisco which made Moroder and Belotte famous; the other three songs blend funk, jazz, soul, and pop into an artful and exciting dancefloor concoction. Largely overlooked now, FOUR SEASONS OF LOVE is overdue for critical reappraisal
