After a brief hiatus, Duran Duran returned as a trio in 1986 with Notorious. The spare groove of the title track made it clear that the band were trying to shed their teeny-bopper image and refashion themselves as a pop band for yuppies. Thanks to Nile Rodgers' polished, radio-friendly production, Notorious was a success, as the band found a middle ground between synth pop and white funk. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
