Mild-mannered Sacramento teenaged headbangers Fate somehow sound like scene veterans. Their Metal Blade debut, VULTURES, is a blast of accomplished, riff-heavy metalcore that stands toe to toe with the genre's standard-bearers. Songs like "Your Creed is Greed" feature jaw-dropping quicksilver fretwork and sturdy chugging in equal measure, and "Psychopathic Diary" is rhythmically intense enough to cause schizophrenia on its own. They certainly have plenty of room to explore the limits of thrash in the future, but for now VULTURES shows Fate to be well ahead of their classmates in heavy metal 101.
