Album Overview
Hot Chip continue their evolution on Freakout/Release, the band’s eighth studio album and another expansive entry in their long-running electronic catalog. Released in 2022 through Domino, the album brings together electronic production, indie electronic music, alternative dance, pop songwriting, funk-inflected rhythms, and darker emotional textures while retaining the melodic immediacy that has defined the group for more than two decades.
The album opens with “Down,” built around a sample of Universal Togetherness Band’s “More Than Enough,” before moving through the driving “Eleanor,” the explosive title track, and the reflective “Not Alone.” Lou Hayter appears on “Hard to Be Funky,” while Cadence Weapon features on “The Evil That Men Do,” expanding the album’s collaborative sound.
This indie-exclusive limited edition is pressed on two brown vinyl records and was released by Domino as catalog number WIGLP481X. The vinyl edition includes a download code and adds the exclusive bonus track “The Most Painful Game,” extending the album to 12 tracks across four sides.
