Recorded in London in 1972, HOME IS WHERE THE MUSIC IS is a relatively early release for Hugh Masekela. The South African trumpeter would go on to play in just about every conceivable setting, but this date is a fine example of Masekela's fusion of Afro-pop with more straightforward jazz. Groove is paramount on these 10 tracks. As usual, Masekela surrounds himself with fine musicians, most notably the trumpet player Dudu Pukwana. The track list includes a Masekela original, a Miriam Makeba song, and five tracks by Caiphus Semyena. The 2008 reissue brings the original recording back with crisply remastered sound.
