The version of "River Deep Mountain High" included here is not the original hit single produced by Phil Spector. Ike & Tina Turner: Ike Turner, Tina Turner. With one conspicuous exception, this one disc best-of is a nearly definitive collection of this tempestuous duo's music. That exception, of course, is a big one; the version here of "River Deep, Mountain High" is not the epochal Phil Spector produced single, but rather a live version--perfectly acceptable on its own terms, but purists will lament the lack of Spector's famous Wall of Sound. Everything else, however, is choice, from smolderingly raunchy early '60s singles like "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" to Tina's autobiographical "Nutbush City Limits" in the early '70s. This is essential stuff from these seminal artists.
