Release Overview
LCD Soundsystem collect a trio of deep cuts from the Sound of Silver era on Confuse the Marketplace, an EP originally released in 2007. Bringing together material that had previously appeared on European singles, the release moves between extended disco grooves, acidic electronic production, and the wiry dance-punk energy associated with James Murphy and DFA Records.
Side A is devoted to the sprawling “Freak Out / Starry Eyes,” a long-form disco workout that stretches LCD Soundsystem’s rhythmic instincts across more than twelve minutes. Side B pairs “North American Scum (Onanistic Dub),” an alternate dub treatment of the Sound of Silver track, with the instrumental “Hippie Priest Bum-Out.”
This 2018 U.S. DFA Records repress brings the EP back to black 12-inch vinyl. Both sides play at 45 RPM, despite the Side B label incorrectly indicating 33⅓ RPM, making this pressing a distinctive physical edition of one of LCD Soundsystem’s more collector-focused releases.
