Album Overview
LCD Soundsystem’s self-titled debut album introduced James Murphy’s project at full-length scale, expanding the sharp electronic production and dance-punk attitude of the band’s early singles into a complete studio album. Originally released in 2005, LCD Soundsystem blends electronic music, post-punk, disco, punk-funk, and indie rock with Murphy’s distinctive combination of humor, anxiety, cultural observation, and club-minded rhythm.
The album opens with the infectious “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” before moving through the restless electronics of “Tribulations” and “Movement,” the hypnotic repetition of “On Repeat,” and the art-rock atmosphere of “Never as Tired as When I’m Waking Up” and “Great Release.” Across nine tracks, LCD Soundsystem draw from decades of underground dance and rock music while establishing a sound that would become one of the defining combinations of indie and electronic music of the 2000s.
This 2023 U.S. DFA Records reissue presents the original nine-track album on a single black vinyl LP. The pressing is housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring the album’s white-cover artwork and carries DFA catalog number dfa 2138.
