Album Overview
LCD Soundsystem reached a new level of ambition with Sound of Silver, the band’s second studio album and one of the defining records of the 2000s dance-punk movement. Originally released in 2007, the album expands James Murphy’s blend of electronic music, disco, post-punk, indie rock, and hypnotic repetition while bringing a more emotionally direct side of his songwriting to the forefront.
Recorded during 2006 at Long View Farm in Massachusetts and DFA Studios in New York City, Sound of Silver moves effortlessly between tightly wound dancefloor tracks and reflective songwriting. “Get Innocuous!” and “North American Scum” deliver propulsive electronic grooves, while “Someone Great” and “All My Friends” explore loss, friendship, aging, and nostalgia. The album closes with the piano-led “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” one of James Murphy’s most memorable tributes to his hometown.
This 2016 European reissue presents the complete nine-track album across two black vinyl records. Issued through DFA and Parlophone, the pressing is housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed picture and lyric inner sleeves and includes a large fold-out poster.
