Christian Forshaw/Grace Davidson – Lindisfarne: Beyond the Causeway [CD]
Description
A new album with brand new music inspired by the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, a historic tidal island off the Northumberland coast, accessible only via a causeway at low tide and cut off by the sea twice daily. Famous for its ancient priory and castle, it is renowned as the birthplace of Christianity. The album was composed by Christian Forshaw. Written for saxophone and soprano, with layered performances on multiple additional instruments, it combines elements of folk, classical, sacred and contemporary. Soprano Grace Davidson's luminous voice is central to the album's identity. The album features original and existing texts, most notably, "Tale of the Leiden Riddle," which features The Leiden Riddle: one of the earliest surviving examples of the Northumbrian dialect. Grown out of a long-standing fascination with the meeting point between landscape, spirituality and sound, this album takes you on a journey of internal reflection, longing, and a sense of the eternal.
