Anthony covers the dance floor with energetic songs like "Me Voy A Regalar" and "Si Tu Vas," and plunges wholeheartedly into emotional ballads such as "Y Hubo Alguien" with characteristic soulfulness. This album is in some respects an answer to Anthony's old-school critics, who have objected in the past to his modern take on traditional salsa; CONTRA was recorded in Puerto Rico with the well-known arranger Angel "Cucco" Pena, a collaboration whose result is fresh and innovative, yet strongly resonant of the soneros who have been among Anthony's lifelong influences.
