Natalie Cole's Icon compilation features most of her charting singles from 1975 through 1980, including the Grammy-winning hits "This Will Be" and "Sophisticated Lady (She's a Different Lady)." It also features her other Billboard R&B number one hits, namely "Inseparable," "I've Got Love on My Mind," and "Our Love." It's missing a couple A-sides from the era, but not one of the selections here is insignificant. This is a concise, straightforward, budget-priced summary of the singer's earliest work for Capitol. Serious soul fans should consider digging deeper with her six proper 1975-1980 studio albums, which were combined on two releases from BGO during the early 2010s. ~ Andy Kellman
