A year before he achieved international success with FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE, ex-Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton struck gold on his self-titled album. "Show Me the Way" and "Baby, I Love Your Way," tracks that would become smash singles on the live album, may have secured FRAMPTON's place in rock history, but the lesser-known songs are just as fine and memorable. Frampton plays guitar, organ, and the familiar talkbox, along with piano, which lends a loose, jamming feel to "Day's Dawning." The less-familiar studio version of "Show Me the Way" proves that Frampton can write a pop tune with a great hook, while his soulful voice and production talent are evident on the casual "One More Time" and on the jazzy "The Crying Clown." The island-flavored instrumental "Nassau" segues into the immensely popular "Baby, I Love Your Way." Frampton layers fancy acoustic chords melodiously on the beautiful "Penny for Your Thoughts," contrasting with the heavy crunch of "(I'll Give You) Money." Another stand-out, "Nowhere's Too Far (For My Baby)," is a classic-rock sing-along. FRAMPTON should appeal to pop lovers, as well as fans of British rock.
