Producers: Gary Usher, Sonny Knight, Jerry Fuller. Compilation producer: Eliot Goshman. Recorded between 1967 & 1971. Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian. Best-known for their soulful, horn-driven hit "More Today Than Yesterday (which in later years has become an oldies radio staple), the Spiral Starecase were an eager young pop group that unfortunately fizzled out after only one album and a few singles. It was the same old story: management hi jinx; quarrels over cash. Luckily, this compendium of the band's work exists. Compiling as it does their entire debut album, as well as the follow-up singles (both A- and B-sides), More Today Than Yesterday is the definitive Spiral Starecase retrospective, surpassing even Taragon's other look back at the band, which features only singles and a few select album cuts. ~ Johnny Loftus
