Album Overview

Talking Heads expanded their sound with More Songs About Buildings and Food, the band’s second studio album. Originally released in 1978, the record marked the beginning of their influential collaboration with producer Brian Eno, bringing a stronger emphasis on rhythm, texture, and groove to the group’s distinctive new wave and art rock sound.

The album includes early favorites such as “Thank You for Sending Me an Angel,” “Warning Sign,” “Found a Job,” and “The Big Country,” along with Talking Heads’ celebrated interpretation of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.” Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz provide a tightly locked rhythm section while Jerry Harrison’s keyboards and David Byrne’s angular guitar and vocals help push the band toward a more layered and dance-oriented approach.

Produced by Brian Eno and Talking Heads, More Songs About Buildings and Food established many of the rhythmic and experimental ideas the band would continue developing across Fear of Music and Remain in Light.

This 2020 Rocktober edition presents the complete 11-track studio album on 140-gram translucent red vinyl. Released as part of Rhino’s annual Rocktober series, the limited-edition pressing was produced in a run of 4,000 copies.

Why You’ll Love It

If you enjoy Talking Heads at the point where their early new wave sound began opening into funkier rhythms and more adventurous production, More Songs About Buildings and Food is an essential part of the band’s catalog. From the restless energy of “Found a Job” and “Warning Sign” to the groove-driven “Take Me to the River,” the album captures the beginning of the creative partnership between Talking Heads and Brian Eno while this translucent red Rocktober pressing adds a collectible edition to the experience.
