Album Overview
Talking Heads brought their studio career to a close with Naked, the band’s eighth and final studio album. Originally released in 1988, the record revisits the rhythmic experimentation of the group’s earlier work while drawing from art pop, funk, worldbeat, African rhythms, and Latin-influenced arrangements.
The album opens with “Blind” and continues through songs including “Mr. Jones,” “Totally Nude,” “Ruby Dear,” and “(Nothing But) Flowers.” The expanded arrangements feature the core lineup of David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth alongside an extensive group of guest musicians, including Johnny Marr, Kirsty MacColl, Mory Kanté, Wally Badarou, and numerous percussion and horn players.
Basic recordings for Naked were made at Studio Davout in Paris before vocals and additional overdubs were completed at Sigma Sound Studios in New York. Produced by Steve Lillywhite and Talking Heads, the album combines loose, improvisational performances with the band’s distinctive approach to rhythm, melody, and unconventional pop songwriting.
This 1988 U.S. CD edition presents the complete 11-track album, including “Bill,” which was included on the CD configuration.
