Real Live Wires: Chicago Broadcast 1978 captures Talking Heads during a pivotal early period, performing live at Park West in Chicago on August 28, 1978. Recorded for an FM broadcast by WXRT, the performance finds the band touring in support of More Songs About Buildings and Food and developing the angular, energetic live sound that helped establish them as one of the most distinctive acts to emerge from the late-1970s new wave and post-punk scene.
The fourteen-track set draws heavily from the band’s first two albums, including “The Big Country,” “Warning Sign,” “The Book I Read,” “Artists Only,” “Psycho Killer,” and “Take Me to the River.” The performance captures David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison at a stage when Talking Heads were rapidly expanding beyond their CBGB-era beginnings.
This 2013 European import edition presents the Chicago broadcast across two 140-gram black vinyl LPs in a gatefold sleeve. Issued by Let Them Eat Vinyl as an unofficial archival release, the pressing was limited to 1,000 copies and is not an officially authorized Talking Heads release.
