Tentative Decisions: Demos & Live offers a rare look at the formative years of Talking Heads, documenting the period before the band’s 1977 debut album. The collection brings together early demos and live recordings from David Byrne, Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth as the original trio developed the songs and ideas that would help define their distinctive art-rock and new wave sound.
The LP features eleven demo and live recordings from 1975 and 1976, including early versions of “Psycho Killer,” “Tentative Decisions,” “Warning Sign,” “The Book I Read,” and “Thank You for Sending Me an Angel.” It also includes a performance of “Artists Only” recorded live at the Lower Manhattan Ocean Club in New York on August 17, 1976.
A bonus 45 RPM 7-inch single reaches even further back to David Byrne and Chris Frantz’s college years at the Rhode Island School of Design. Recorded by their pre-Talking Heads group The Artistics, the single features early versions of “Psycho Killer” and “Warning Sign,” providing a fascinating glimpse of songs that would eventually become part of the Talking Heads catalog.
