Album Overview
Weezer pushed toward a heavier, more guitar-driven sound on Maladroit, the band’s fourth studio album. Originally released in 2002, the record was self-produced by Weezer and marked the first studio album to feature bassist Scott Shriner as a full member of the band.
The 13-track album opens with “American Gigolo” before moving through “Dope Nose,” “Keep Fishin’,” “Take Control,” and “Death and Destruction.” The second half includes “Burndt Jamb,” “Space Rock,” “Slave,” “Fall Together,” “Possibilities,” “Love Explosion,” and the closing “December.”
Maladroit combines Weezer’s melodic alternative-rock and power-pop foundation with heavier guitar riffs, prominent solos, and a more aggressive rock sound. The album was recorded at Cello Studios in Los Angeles and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge, with Weezer handling production.
This 2024 U.S. repress presents Maladroit on standard black vinyl through Geffen Records. It represses the Direct Metal Mastered vinyl edition originally issued in 2016 and includes a printed 12 x 12 insert.
