Originally released in 2000, Afu-Ra's debut single Whirlwind Thru Cities marked the arrival of one of Gang Starr Foundation's most distinctive voices. Produced by Joe Roach and backed by DJ PremierÕs signature cuts, the track became an underground classic and helped define the sound of D&D Studios during it's peak era in New York City. Reissued on 7Ó vinyl via D&D Records in partnership with Fat Beats, this release brings a key moment in early 2000s hip-hop back to wax for DJs, collectors, and fans of the D&D legacy. The B-side, ÒD&D Soundclash, Ó features Cocoa Brovaz (Smif-N-Wessun) and Jahdan Blakkamoore, and is produced by Mr. Walt and Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz. During it's original run, the track became Afu-Ra's most successful vinyl release, gaining strong support from DJs and remaining a sought-after record among collectors. Both tracks were recorded and mixed at the legendary D&D Studios, NYC, a cornerstone of the Gang Starr Foundation sound and a hub for some of the most influential hip-hop recordings of it's time. This 7Ó release captures the raw energy, lyrical precision, and production style that defined an era, now presented in a format built for today's vinyl resurgence.
